To everything (Turn, Turn, Turn)
There is a season (Turn, Turn, Turn)
And a time to every purpose, under Heaven ~~The Byrds
I have to say it…I love fall! It is my favorite time of year. I love to see the fields after the crops are harvested, looking neat and tidy for the winter. I love getting out sweaters and sweatshirts…even my favorite sock hat (the one Jim calls my Ali MacGraw one ..from Love Story).
Last week, Jim and I were in Chelsea, Michigan getting the first of two procedures done on my neck. What a beautiful drive it was! The colors of the trees were brilliant! It seemed that around every turn was a new, breath-taking scene. Autumn has arrived!
As I said, I love fall! I love sitting on our deck in the evenings with a fire in the pit, watching Jim as he roasts hotdogs for our supper. I love breathing in the cool, crisp air and looking up into a clear, star filled sky.
Long walks through the woods, with the fallen leaves crunching beneath my feet are so relaxing. Watching fox squirrels scurry about, searching for nuts to store up for the winter. Seeing deer eating in the newly cleaned fields, their brownish red fur shining in the sunlight.
I love being in the kitchen, baking cookies and bread, making big pots of soup. I love opening the windows and letting the breeze blow through and cooling the heat from the oven.
I know God made each season with a purpose…a season to grow and a season to harvest…a season to rest. It’s the same with our lives. Each season of our lives has a purpose. We change constantly. We grow and learn. Our lives take us in directions we never dreamed they would. Some are exciting; some filled with uncertainty. We have times of joy and times of sorrow.
No matter what season of life we are in, God is there. God has a plan for us. A direction to go…a journey. Just as summer gives way to fall, so must we embrace each new season, each new set of challenges.
Father, today I pray for those who are in that transition, who are moving from season to season, and are filled with anxiety or fear. Father, be their peace…let them fill your presence and know that you are indeed in control. Let them lean on your strength and direction. Thank you for always being a loving shepherd, guiding us through the seasons of our lives. Amen
Live each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each. . ~ Henry David Thoreau
“Because he loves me,” says the Lord, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.” Psalm 91:14-15
